2021 Year in Review
Chelmsford Climate Action Team (CCAT) had a successful year in 2021 with the achievement of our
main initiative – to promote the formation of a town committee to study and make recommendations for
Chelmsford to achieve a goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with Massachusetts
climate legislation. CCAT submitted a petition for a town meeting warrant article “Chelmsford Resolution to
Address Climate Change” and presented and defended the resolution at Spring Town Meeting, where it was
approved by a vote of 108 to 18.
The Chelmsford Select Board subsequently formed the new Clean Energy and Sustainability Committee, with nine members selected from a pool of about 20 applicants. This committee meets bi-weekly at 7:00 pm at the Town Hall.
CCAT hosted 10 Climate Conversations in collaboration with the Chelmsford Library on Thursdays at 1 pm.
Topics included:
- January – Reducing Your Carbon Footprint
- February – Vineyard Wind
- March – Climate Resolution Discussion
- April – The CCAT Journey
- May – Native Plants with Jessie Panek
- June – Fundamentals of Energy Efficient Buildings
- August – Better Buildings, Healthier Communities through Building Code with Sarah Dooling of the Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN)
- September – Make Your Home More Energy Efficient – Mass Save program
- October – Katherine Hayhoe Ted Talk Discussion
- December – Seeing the Whole System – The Security and Sustainability Guide with Michael Sales of Elders Climate Action
We also hosted an evening presentation on the Massachusetts New State Climate Law with Tim Cronin
of ClimateXChange.
2022 – The Year Ahead
CCAT has decided to focus our energies this year on providing community education in-person at town-wide events. After two years of meeting virtually, we are eager to get out and meet people where they are – at the library, recycling events, town common, etc. Look for us, and better yet, join us as we continue to educate Chelmsford residents about the Chelmsford Choice Electricity Program that enables residents to choose renewable energy sources for our electricity generation.
Meet and Greet at the Chelmsford Library
CCAT is working with the library to schedule an in-person, evening meeting, as soon as COVID restrictions
are relaxed. Watch for a future announcement for the date. This will also be an opportunity to meet members
of the town Clean Energy and Sustainability Committee.
Earth Day Celebration on April 23 rd at the Library
CCAT plans to have an information table outside at the library on Saturday April 23rd to mark this year’s Earth
Day week. The town Recycling Committee plans to join us to provide useful information on those perplexing
questions about what can and cannot be recycled.
Call for Volunteers
CCAT can use help with event planning, Facebook
maintenance, newsletters etc. Please join us for our
monthly meetings on the second Monday at 7:30pm
and let us know of your talents and interests.
Chelmsford Center for the Arts – Resonating Earth
CCA is presenting a piano concert with visual imagery to inspire environmental action on March 20 at 2:00.
